Artist's Statement
Throughout my art journey I have studied art with zest and enthusiasm, learning anything new was thrilling and exciting, and it still is!
What a privilege it has been to study with so many amazing gifted teachers, and mentors. My art journey continues with knowledge, wisdom and inspiration that draws me into a wonderful world of creativity.
Artist Bio
Terrie Shaw’s fervor for art has always been a part of her life, her excitement grows as she continues to explore mediums and techniques. She was born in Middleton, Nova Scotia. Her family moved about, living in Miami and Massachusetts before moving back to Nova Scotia.
Being a United Church minister’s wife, raising five children while moving to various parts of Canada, and working as Assistant Director for a Seniors Activity Centre, has not stopped her passion for expressing art. She has managed to find the time to explore the arts in various media: pen and ink, charcoal, oils, watercolours, acrylics, collage, folk art and plein air painting. Her other interests include clowning, quilting, interior decorating, refurbishing old furniture, cooking and entertaining.
Terrie’s work has encompassed commissioned portraiture, indoor and outdoor murals, miniatures, Oils, watercolour, folk art, pen and ink, and mixed media. Terrie’s works of art have been exhibited in various galleries from 2004 to present, and her paintings have been published for the past ten years on the cover of a senior’s directory for SAGE, (Seniors Association of Greater Edmonton).
Terrie’s first formal education in the arts was at the NSCC (Nova Scotia Community College) where she has received a Commercial Art Degree. Terrie continues to study all media with many artists, and has found Lynn Sinfield, Doris Charest, Sharon Lynn Williams, Anne McCartney, David Langevin, and Master Denis Perin to be the most inspirational instructors. After honing her skills with Oils, mixed media, folk art, portraiture, and line and wash, she now enjoys teaching these mediums.
Now that Terrie is blissfully retired, she works daily in her studio enjoying; painting, blogging, exhibiting in galleries, and teaching.
